  Bad Marriages and Divorce in Hinduism In Hinduism, ideally a husband and wife should live together at all costs despite any quarrel that they have. I do not have divorced parents, but I too hold this ideal as no children should have to face the pain of their parents being separated. However, I do acknowledge that there will be cases where it is better for the wife to leave the husband should the latter be wicked. Again, ideally a couple should be willing to work out their problems and live together even if they have some major disagreements and are prone to arguing. But this is an ideal to strive for, and what I find wrong is to deem it a sin or crime to not fit into an ideal. The key word is ideal . And that brings me to a new Hermeneutical Principle that I am putting: Statement of Ideality .  Statement of Ideality Scriptures may mention an ideal conduct, and that is all that is meant, it is ideal .
